For some, it’s enough to unfollow and block someone. Automatic messages, part of the ever growing trend of automation through social media. People set up generic messages to be delivered upon a follow or reply in order to give the illusion of interactivity – what it does more times than not is annoy and frustrate the user on the receiving end.
To find out how to stop those annoying DM’s from at least 2 of the most popular automated services, check after the jump!
Tweetlater.com Opt Out Instructions
1) Log in to Twitter.
2) Follow @OptMeOut.
They will follow you back within a few minutes.
3) Wait until you’ve received the email from Twitter that tells you @OptMeOut has followed you back.
4) Then send a DM to @OptMeOut. (You can write whatever you want in the DM, it does not matter.)
5) After sending the DM, unfollow @OptMeOut. (This way your opting out remains private since people won’t see you in the list of @OptMeOut’s followers. They will unfollow you as well.)
TweetLater will, within a few minutes of you sending your DM, stop sending you any further automated welcome DMs.
Your decision to opt-out remains private. They will never disclose it to anybody, unless required by law.
If you ever change your mind about opting out, please submit a Help Desk ticket and ask us to remove them from the opt-out list.
